Modern tiles require a polymer-modified tile adhesive, not traditional sand-cement mortar.

Limitations of traditional screed installation

  • Modern tiles have low porosity

    The low porosity of vitrified tile provides limited mechanical key for plain cement mortar, increasing the need for a purpose-formulated adhesive.

  • Plain cement mortar loses moisture rapidly

    Without performance additives, cement mortar can lose moisture too quickly, increasing the risk of shrinkage and tile debonding.

  • Traditional screed beds can create concealed voids

    Sand-cement screed installation can leave voids beneath the tile, reducing support and increasing the risk of cracking under load.
